Ex-Kegalle UC member commits suicide

A former UNP member of the Kegalle Urban Council has committed suicide by hanging himself, police said.

Saman Amarakoon, 60, was found hanging from the branch of a tree behind his residence.

Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the former councilor committed suicide due to depression caused by a resent family dispute.

The body has been placed at the mortuary of the Kegalle Hospital while Kegalle Police are conducting further investigations.
