Mother jumps in front of train with infant

A woman carrying her infant son committed suicide this morning by jumping in front of a speeding train in the Pilimathalawa area. Police said that the both the mother and son were killed instantly.

The incident had occurred at around 8.45am today when the when the woman jumped in front of a train traveling from Colombo to Kandy.

Police are yet to identify the deceased while the remains have been currently placed at the Kandy Base Hospital.

Kandy Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
