The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) on Sunday (19) announced that the party will extend its support to pass the draft bill on the 19th Amendment.

The observation was made by General Secretary of JVP Tilvin Silva at a press conference held in Colombo.

“The JVP was on the view that the executive presidency should be completely abolished. But with the current political situation in the country, it is not possible to overcome that,” Silva said.

However, he added that the JVP urged the government to abolish the arbitrary powers of the executive presidency.

Silva also said that discussions are underway to callback former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe who resigned from the party last Thursday (16).
