Mother and 3 children drown in sea off Tangalle

Four persons from the same family drowned in the sea off Parai Wella Beach in Tangalle this morning, police said.

A woman and her 3 children were on the beach when they swept were suddenly out to sea at around 10.15am today.

The bodies of the woman and two children have been recovered while one of the children is still missing, police spokesman’s office said.

The victims have been identified as a 31-year-woman from Colombo and her children (aged 10, 6 and 2).

They had traveled to Tangalle to attend a wedding and had stopped at Parai Wella (Pigeon Beach) on the way. The children had been playing in the beach when they were swept away by the waves while their mother had attempted to rescue them. However, all four of them had drowned.
