A group of Parliamentarians attached to the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) on Sunday (26) appealed the party leader to re-consider its decision to support the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

Parliamentarians Shivashakthi Anandan, Selvam Adaikalanadan and Vino Noha Radhalingam who represent the Vanni Electoral District asserted that they have come to a conclusion not to vote in favour of the Amendment.

Shivashakthi Anandan expressed that the present government has also failed to address the issues faced by the Tamil community. “Thus we urge the TNA to vote against the 19th Amendment,” he added.

The 19th Amendment, which was a major aspect among the key targets to be achieved in the government’s 100-day pledge, has stuck in a deadlock after the opposition opposed to extend its support to pass it. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) expressed that the amendment and the electoral reforms should come hand in hand.
