Child dead, 13 injured after truck hits tree

A child was killed and another 13 persons wounded after a small truck, carrying a group of pilgrims, veered off the road and collided with a tree in Konwewa, Thambuttegama.

The Police Spokesman’s Office stated that the driver of the truck, transporting the pilgrims from Wariyapola to Anuradhapura, had lost control of the vehicle thereby resulting in the accident.

An 8-year-old girl died on the spot while the wounded were rushed to Thambuttegama Hospital. Two women who are in critical condition have been transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
