Army personnel removed from Presidential Guard

The Presidential Guard established under the Sri Lanka Army by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been dissolved, the military spokesman said.

The army personnel attached to the Presidential Guard have been removed and reassigned respectively to their previous military units with effect from April 30, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said.

However, he stressed that the security of the former President will not be affected.

It is said that the unit identified as Presidential Security Division (PSD), which was established by Mahinda Rajapaksa based on administrative requirements, had also comprised of army personnel in addition to the police officers.
