UPFA Parliamentarian Sajin de Vass Gunawardena has been summoned to appear at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday.

Gunawardena stated that he has been asked to appear at the CID office in order to provide a statement regarding certain vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.

The CID had also questioned the MP in February in connection with the corruption charges leveled against him by Voice against Corruption (VaC), an organization headed by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Councilor Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Colombo Magistrate Court had ordered the CID to conduct investigations into how former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena, former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama and six relatives of them have earned a large amount of assets and properties during their tenures.

The Commission to Investigate the Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has also filed action against the former Monitoring MP of the External Affairs Ministry, under Section 9 of the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act of 1975.
