UPDATE: Over 250 Sri Lankans evacuated in Qatar fire

UPDATE: Over 250 Sri Lankans evacuated unharmed after a fire broke out today in a dormitory in Qatar, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera said. 

The fire had broken out at a dormitory in the Sailiya area this morning. 

However, none of the Sri Lankan nationals have been injured in the fire, according to the Deputy General Manager and Media Spokesman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Mangala Randeniya.

He stated that over Sri Lankan nationals employed at a cleaning company have been displaced due to the fire and that they have currently been provided temporary shelter at another camp. 

Foreign Employment Bureau said that a group of officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar have been dispatched to look into the displaced migrant workers.
