The opposition will move a motion of no confidence against Central Bank Governor, Arjuna Mahendran, who is in the spotlight due to the controversy surrounding the treasury bond issue, former Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris said.

The observation was made at a press conference held at Sri Abayaramaya Temple, Narahenpita on Thursday (14) morning.

“The motion will be presented to the parliament on 19 May. Over 100 parliamentarians including ten Ministers of the present government have already inked the motion,” Peiris said.

He also pointed out the opposition highly admires the historic decision of the Supreme Court in which it issued an interim order preventing the arrest of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Rajapaksa on Monday (11) filed a fundamental rights application challenging the legality of establishing the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) and seeking an interim order preventing his arrest.
