The Tri-forces had no intention to fight against the Tamil minority during the three decade armed conflict but fought to eliminate the Tamil rebel terrorists who wanted to divide the island nation, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

The observation was made at a special event held in Homagama, last evening (18).

“Even the CIA was of the view that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was the most dangerous terrorist organization in the world. The war was against them, but not against the Tamil people. Some parties now attempt to mislead the public,” Rajapaksa said.

“War heroes sacrificed their lives to defeat the LTTE. However, elements attempt to move for an international investigation to probe war crimes now,” he charged.
