Police use water cannons to disperse protesters in Kahawatta

May 28, 2015   07:48 pm

Police used water cannons to disperse protestors blocking the Embilipitiya-Ratnapura main road at the Kahawatta Town.

The group, residents of Kotakethana area, had engaged in a protest for almost 2 hours this evening causing severe traffic congestion as they proceeded to obstruct traffic along the road.

The protest was staged against the court’s verdict on the dual murder in Kotakethana.

Earlier today, the Colombo High Court acquitted the three suspects accused in the 2012 murder of a mother and daughter in Kotakethana, Ratnapura.
