Truth behind Rugby player’s death expected soon

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara says that the truth regarding the death of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen will be uncovered very soon.

Responding to a question from media at a press briefing today, he said that certain information regarding the incident has surfaced and therefore they expect to uncover the truth in the near future.

Sri Lankan ruggerite and former Havelock SC captain Wasim Thajudeen was found dead inside his car in Kirullapone on 17 May, 2012.

Police initially predicted that Thajudeen had been driving to the airport when his car crashed into a wall and burst into flames, causing his death.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is now investigating the case upon a directive made by the IGP while in February the police department claimed that the possibility of an accident causing his death has been ruled out.

Minister of Public Order & Christian Affairs, Mr. John Amaratunga yesterday (28) said that death was murder and not an accident.

He stated that investigations are almost complete and that the CID is now probing to determine who murdered him and under whose orders.
