Court postpones Basil’s bail application until 15 June

The Colombo High Court on Monday (8) postponed the hearing of a bail application filed by the attorneys for former Minister Basil Rajapaksa until 15 June.


Former Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa, has been remanded till June 10 by the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.


Former Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka, former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka and Divi Neguma Regional Director Bandula Thilakasiri have also been remanded till June 10.


Basil Rajapaksa and three other senior ministry officials were arrested by the police on April 22. They were arrested on charges of alleged misappropriation of funds in the Divi Neguma Department, which came under the purview of the Economic Development Minister.

 
Basil Rajapaksa, who left the country for the US on 11 January following the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the January Presidential Election, arrived here on April 21.
