Man arrested with gold worth over Rs 3.8 million at BIA

A Sri Lankan man was arrested by customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs 3.8 million into the country.

Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said that the 33-year-old suspect, a resident of Colombo, was arrested upon arrival from Dubai this morning.

He stated that 3 unfinished gold chains weighing around 700g and worth approximately Rs 3,848,130 in the market, was found inside his luggage.

Sri Lanka Customs is conducting further investigations.
