Buddhist monk immolates self

A Buddhist monk has committed suicide by self-immolation in a forest area at the Madunagala Hermitage.

The deceased has been identified as a 69-year-old monk who had been residing at a meditation center in the Millewa area.

The reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained while the postmortem examination on the remains is to be carried out at the Hambantota Hospital.

Ambalantota Police is conducting an investigation.
