Ex-PS member arrested for poaching in reserve

A former UNP member of the Ambalantota Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested by wildlife officers for allegedly poaching within the Madunagala Reserve.

The suspect was arrested following an operation reportedly carried out at around 2.00am this morning.

Wildlife officers say that at the time of the arrest, the suspect was in the possession of a firearm and a corpse of an animal shot and killed by him.

Another suspect had managed to flee during the raid, however the two motorcycles used by them were taken into custody.

The arrested suspect is to be produced at court today by the Hambantota Wildlife Office.
