The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today informed the CID to produce a copy of the Colombo High Court directive to freeze the bank accounts belonging to popular cinema and television actress, Udayanthi Kulatunga.

A petition filed by the Kulathunga, seeking to unfreeze her bank accounts, was taken up for consideration before the Magistrate’s Court today (19).

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had sought and obtained the court order to freeze Kulathunga’s bank accounts after investigations into notorious underworld kingpin and drug trafficker, Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda, had allegedly uncovered financial transactions between the duo.

The information was uncovered upon inspection of Wele Suda’s mobile phone, the CID informed the court today.

According to the CID, Wele Suda had given Kulathunga a sum of Rs 100,000 on four occasions and another Rs 50,000 as a ‘birthday gift’. These details had been uncovered after inspecting her bank accounts.

The CID also informed the court that the popular actress had made a deposit of Rs 10 million to her sister’s bank account.

However, the attorney representing Kulathunga rejected these accusations, Ada Derana reporter said.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya said the petition would be taken up conspiring again on July 03 and instructed the CID to produce a copy of the High Court decree on that date.
