Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, who has reached the age of retirement, says that he will continue to function in his post until the Elections Commission is established in line with the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

Deshapriya today visited the Department of Pensions on order to obtain the documents required for his retirement and made preparations for his impending retirement.

Speaking to Ada Derana, the commissioner said that on June 06 he completed 60 years, the retirement age for state officials, and therefore he too has to be pensioned off.

However, Deshapriya stated that he would have to continue as the Elections Commissioner until the commission is appointed in accordance with the 19th amendment. He stated that his predecessor also faced a similar predicament.
