Met Department issues severe weather advisory

The Department of Meteorology says that due to the convergence of wind flows showery weather with very heavy rain falls in the southwestern parts of the country and strong southwesterly winds over the country and surrounding sea areas are expected.

There will be cloudy skies with showers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and Galle, Matara districts.

Issuing a severe weather advisory today, the department’s Early Warning Centre said that heavy rain falls more than 150mm can be expected in the Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts.

Strong southwesterly winds with speeds about 80km /hr will occur over the country (especially over western slope of the central hills) and surrounding sea areas are expected, it said.
