SLFP Treasurer and Minister S.B. Nawinne says that he will join the United National Party (UNP) and contest the upcoming General Election from the UNP ticket.

Nawinne was the Minister of National Languages and Social Integration under the Rajapaksa government, however he pledged support to President Maithripala Sirisena after the January 8 election.

On February 14, he was appointed as the new Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the following month was appointed as the Minister of Labour and Labour Relations under the new government.

Nawinne is expected to be named as the UNP Organiser for Wariyapola.
