Filing of nominations concludes today

Accepting of nominations for the General Election will be concluded today (06) at 12. 00 p.m. the Elections Department said.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya told Ada Derana that 47 recognised political parties and 111 independent groups have submitted nomination papers as of Friday (10) afternoon.
Deposits of Rs.2,000 per candidate representing independent groups will be accepted while there will be no deposits from the 64 registered and recognised political parties.
The Elections Commissioner said that applications for postal votes can be made from August 3 – 10.
