The Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order against convening of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), without a prior permission from the President.
The order was issued following a case filed by member of the UPFA, Prasanna Solangaarachchi, on Wednesday (15) .
Therefore, a CC meeting, which was scheduled to be held this evening (15), will be canceled following the court ruling, it was reported.
Earlier, President Maithripala Sirisena had in writing requested SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to refrain from holding CC meetings without a prior permission from him.
Solangaarachchi has submitted this letter when filing the case to obtain the enjoining order, Ada Derana reporter added.
Senior Vice President of the SLFP Janaka Bandara Tennakoon earlier said that an immediate CC meeting should be held owing to several remarks made by the President at a special press conference held in Colombo last afternoon (14).
President Maithripala Sirisena, at the press conference, said that he was of the view that nominations should not be given to the former President to contest under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket at the forthcoming General Election.
