Five sentenced to death over Lindula murder

The Nuwara-Eliya High Court today sentenced five persons to death after they were found guilty of committing murder in the Lindula area in 2000.  

Chandrasekaran Pelupillai, Perumal Lechman, Perumal Mylevaganam, Perumal Parker and Rajendran Gunasekaran of Great Western Estate in Lindula were sentenced to death by High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake. 

Charges were filed against 8 suspects over the murder of P. Suppayya Marimuttu, a father of three from the same area in Lindula who was clubbed to death on October 31, 2000.

However, three of the suspects were acquitted by the court.
