Ravi condemns shooting at Kotahena

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake today condemned the shooting incident, which claimed the life of a woman and left more than 10 of his supporters wounded near Bloemendhal Road in Kotahena. 

Armed men opened fire at a group of supporters of the UNP candidate while they had been engaged in election-related campaigning in the Kotahena area.

Karunanayake says that the gunmen had arrived in a black hybrid car.

Speaking to Ada Derana, the minister said he condemns this “organised” attack which was carried out while the government was giving precedence to the implementation of election laws. 

Karunanayake had visited the Colombo National Hospital following the incident to look into the condition of his supporters. 

Siththy Nasima, 42, a resident of Madampapitiya in Kotahena, succumbed to injuries after being rushed to hospital following the incident which had occurred at around 11.45 am today. 

Twelve other including 10 men are still receiving treatment for injuries as the Colombo National Hospital while two of them are said to be in critical condition.
