Top ILO official to visit Sri Lanka today

A top official of the International Labor Organization (ILO) is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka Saturday on a week-long official visit.

The ILO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Ms. Tomoko Nishimoto will visit Sri Lanka from 8th to 15th August 2015 at the invitation of the Ministry of Labor. This is her first official visit to the island nation.
 
During her visit, Ms. Nishimoto will meet Secretary to the President P.B. Abeykoon, the Secretaries of the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Policy Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Employment and other senior government officials.
 
The ILO Assistant Director General is scheduled to hold talks with the Director General of the Employer’s Federation of Ceylon and Trade Union leaders.
 
During her visit Ms. Nishimoto will also hold meetings with the UN Country Team and other development partners.
 
Ms Nishimoto, who was appointed as Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific in January 2015, oversees the ILO’s operations in the 34 ILO member States in Asia and the Pacific.
 
Ms. Nishimoto has had more than 28 years of experience in sustainable development. Prior to joining the ILO, she had held senior management positions in UNDP, UNICEF and UNEP, and had worked in seven different countries as well as at agency headquarters.
