A 78-year-old Sri Lankan tourist, who was missing two days ago from Bahraich, was found dead in a pond at Korean temple of neighbouring Sharavasti district in Uttar Pradesh, Indian police said today.

According to the police, the cause of Palitha Sunil Keerthisinghe’s death was due to drowning in the temple pond at Ikauna area.

He was part of a team of 63 tourists which had reached the temple on the night of Aug 11 and were staying in the temple guest house. When Keerthisinghe did not return to his room, a search operation was launched, following which his body was found floating in the pond yesterday, PTI reported.

The body was fished out from the pond by locals and has been sent for postmortem, police said.
