President emphasizes importance of coast conservation

President Maithripala Sirisena says that a special programme for coast conservation and preservation would be initiated in the near future. 

“That program will be implemented with support of every party,” he said during an inspection tour to the Coast Conservation Department today (Aug. 26).

President Sirisena who arrived at the Coast Conservation Department in Maligawatta observed its work and later met the staff at the auditorium, the Presidential Media Division said. 

The President inquired about the progress of the conservation and preservation programmes carried out by the Department and also looked into the issues which have arisen in implementation of these programmes.

Pointing out the importance of paying special attention on soil formation project, he directed the officials to remove unauthorized buildings with the help of the police.

Director General of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department Mr. B. K. Prabhath Chandrasiri also joined the discussion.
