August 30, 2015   10:27 am

On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during August 28 and September 7 in this year, Met. dept. says.

The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (30th) are Talaimannar pier, IIupaikkadavai and Periyanmadu about 12.12 noon.

There will be several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Showers can be expected at several places in the Northwestern province too.

Thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the period from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Southwest monsoonal winds can strengthen up to 50 kmph at times over the country (particularly over central hills) and Northwestern & Southeastern sea areas.
