German foreign minister to arrive on Tuesday

Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier is to arrive in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (22) for an official visit, the foreign ministry said.

He is expected to reach the island on Tuesday evening.

During his visit Minister Steinmeier is to meet with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Opposition leader R. Sampanthan.

He will also travel to Kilinochchi to inspect the Sri Lankan-German Training Institute, currently under construction and scheduled to be opened in May 2016 andl participate in a tree planting ceremony.

This is the first visit by a German Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka since 2004.

Meanwhile the German Embassy in Colombo says that its Consular and Visa Section will remain closed next Tuesday, 22 September 2015.
