An individual, who is said to be a suspect involved in the rape and murder of the 5-year-old girl in Kotadeniyawa, has been arrested from a forest area in Baduwatugoda in Gampaha, a senior police officer told Ada Derana.

“The suspect was arrested in a joint operation with several police teams including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and residents of the area,” the officer added.

The police had earlier questioned and arrested two suspects including a 17-year-old youth over the incident as well. They have been remanded until September 28 by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.

The child was found strangled to death on September 13. She was reported missing from her home at Kotadeniyawa in Divulapitiya on the previous day.
Investigations into the murder are carried out by the CID.
