AIDS on the rise among youths: Dr. Liyanage

The Health Ministry says that the authorities have identified some 160 persons diagnosed with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) AIDS as of October this year alone.


According to the Director of the National STD Eradication Unit Dr. Sisira Liyanage, the majority of these victims are between the age group of 25-45.


The Health Ministry further stated that the disease increases due to the tourism industry, use of drugs, homosexual behavior, and immigration.


Over 228 persons diagnosed with HIV AIDS were identified in 2014, Dr.Liyanage added.
