Galle-Matara stretch of expressway reopened

October 2, 2015   04:56 pm

The Galle-Matara stretch of the Southern Expressway has been reopened for vehicular movement, the Ministry of Highways said.

The section of the expressway was closed from the 114km post twice since yesterday due to the risk of earth slips.

The section between Kokmaduwa and Imaduwa was initially closed last night and reopened at around 6.30am this morning.

However, due to the prevailing inclement weather condition in the areas authorities had decided to close the expressway once again this morning.

Deputy Minister of Disaster Management Dunesh Gankanda engaged in an inspection visit to the area earlier today.
