Kokmaduwa to Imaduwa stretch of expressway reopened

October 4, 2015   11:27 am

Kokmaduwa to Imaduwa section of the Southern Expressway, which was temporary closed this morning (4) due to possible rock fall risk, has been reopened, the police say.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) earlier urged motorists using the Southern Expressway to remain cautious due to the risk of an earthslip near the 114km post.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) earlier announced that modern technologies would be applied to mitigate the landslide risk area of the Southern Expressway soon.

The area between Imaduwa and Kokmaduwa on the Matara-Galle stretch of the Southern Expressway was temporarily closed after the NBRO warned that there was a risk of landslide near the 114 km post due to the adverse weather prevailing in the Southern Province.
