October 11, 2015   02:49 pm

The former Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan has been summoned to appear at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to give a statement in connection with a murder incident.

CID officers had visited TMVP leader’s residence last night to record a statement, however due to his absence they had notified him to appear at the CID at 5.00pm today, Ada Derana reporter said.

He said that the Pillayan is to be questioned regarding the assassination of late Tamil politician Joseph Pararajasingham, who was shot dead on Christmas Eve in 2005.

Gunmen opened fire on the TNA MP just after he received communion at St Mary’s church in Batticaloa, killing him and injuring eight others, including his wife.

The assassination, which occurred during the official ceasefire between the government and the LTTE, was condemned by Tamils around the world.
