The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sealed three more containers of weapons and ammunition belonging to the Avant Garde in a ship anchored at the Galle harbour, the Police spokesman says.

A team of officers from the CID earlier also boarded the vessel ‘MT Avant Garde’ which was anchored at the Galle Harbour.

Investigations into the vessel, which is under the custody of the Sri Lanka Navy, have been hand over to the CID after the navy lodged a complaint with the Galle Harbour Police.

The navy had previously stated that nearly 900 firearms including T56 rifles and around 200,000 bullets were found onboard the arms ship.

The navy had carried out preliminary inquiries on the ship and handed a report to the Defence Secretary. The report is being analyzed by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Defence.
