Sumanthiran calls for removal of Wigneswaran from TNA

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says that while a proposal has been made to ITAK calling for the removal of Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran from the TNA, it is not the opinion of the entire party.

TNA spokesman Suresh Premachandran says that MP M.A. Sumanthiran has proposed to the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), the main coalition partner of the TNA, to remove Wigneswaran from the Tamil party.

He, however, said that there is no general agreement on the matter and that it is the opinion of an individual MP and not that of the entire party.

The call for Wigneswaran’s expulsion from the TNA comes in the wake various comments made by the Chief Minister criticizing the party.

Speaking to Ada Derana, Premachandran further said that Tamil prisoners have recommenced hunger strikes across the country due to the government breaking its promise.

The EPRLF leader and former TNA MP stated that a decision will be taken regarding the party’s future course of action on the subject after Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan returns to the country from his overseas visit.
