President should not lead parties at LG polls: Gammanpila

There is a strong demand within the parties that President Maithripala Sirisena should not lead the UPFA and the SLFP at forthcoming local government polls, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Leader and Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this morning (16).

He also pointed out his party would not extend its support to the UPFA as long as President Sirisena holds the leadership position.

“The UPFA will face defeat at upcoming local government polls just like the last General Election,” he added.

Quoting Albert Einstein’s famous line ‘insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results’ he pointed out the UPFA will face defeat at the next election under the leadership of President Sirisena.

“We all hope the President would understand the circumstances and refrain from leading the parties. Even senior members including MPs Prasanna Ranatunga and Kumara Welgama were of the same view on this regard,” said Gammanpila.
