One dead, 7 injured after van topples on Expressway

One woman was killed while another 7 persons were injured when a van toppled on the Southern Expressway near the 73 km post in the Elpitiya police area, police spokesman said.

A vehicle belonging to the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board was involved in the accident while the deceased is a 28-year-old Agricultural Development Officer from Ratnapura.

ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the van was traveling from Kottawa to Galle had toppled and collided with the left side fencing at around 7.00am today. 

The wounded persons have been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle has been arrested while Elpitiya Police is conducting an investigation.
