LG polls unlikely to be held in March - Lakshman Yapa

December 9, 2015   04:14 pm

State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says that it is unlikely the Local Government election will be held in March next year as scheduled.

He stated that close to 700 suggestions have been received with regard to delimitation and that due to attention being drawn to these it is possible that the election activities would be delayed.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo today, Abeywardena conceded that certain issues exist in the budget presented by the government and said that continuing this type of unity governance is a difficult task similar to  “polyandry”.

However, the state minister said he believes the government would be able to resolve the issues and achieve success as it is now receiving international assistance.
