December 23, 2015   12:38 pm

The former SEC Chairman, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, and two others arrested over a financial irregularity at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), have been further remanded until January 04.

Dr Godahewa was arrested by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) on December 07 in connection with the suspected misappropriation of five million rupees.

He was arrested after appearing at the FCID to record a statement regarding an alleged Rs 5 million grant by the SEC for Tharunyata Hetak, a youth movement headed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son MP Namal Rajapaksa.

Nalaka Godahewa was the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for nearly two years under former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was unseated in a bitterly contested election in January, and stepped down after the poll.
