Embilipitiya clash: no arrests yet

February 1, 2016   02:26 pm

The Police Commission will hold a discussion today (02) on the steps to be taken following the police inaction to arrest the suspects allegedly involved in the death of Embilipitiya youth.

An interim report prepared by a three member committee with respect to the controversial death of the man, who died during a clash with police in Embilipitiya, will also be handed over to the commission today.

Any arrests have not been made in connection with the alleged murder yet.

The attorney who appears on behalf of the wife of the deceased stressed that the failure to arrest the persons who are in the spotlight due to their alleged involvement in the incident, gives a bad image of the Sri Lanka Police, since a court in Embilipitiya has already ruled their arrest.

“The inaction to arrest them tarnishes the image of the police. And this is a disgrace to the rule of law,” attorney Vijitha G. Punchihewa said.
