Funeral of Asgiri Mahanayaka Thero on March 13

The funeral of the late Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Sect, Most Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thero will be held on Sunday (March 13) at Police Grounds in Kandy, with full state honors.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Home Affairs says that Sunday has been declared as a National Day of Mourning in view of the last rites of the Buddhist leader. 

The Chief Prelate passed away last night (9) after being admitted to the Kandy Hospital due to suffering a fall inside the temple. 

Most Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha Galagama Dhammasiddhi Sri Dhammananda Aththadassi Thero was elected as the 21st Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter on May 08, 2015.

The Thero was elected after the Passing Away of Most Ven. Aggamahapanditha Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.
