A stock of explosives including several Johnny mines and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher have been recovered from a well at Iluppukadavai  in Mannar, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

This is the second discovery of an arms cache within 24 hours as police this morning announced that a suicide jacket and explosives were recovered from a house in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna District.

Police officers had discovered a suicide jacket, 4 Claymore mines, 3 parcels containing around 12kg of TNT, 2 packets of 9mm ammo (100 bullets) and 2 battery packs used to detonate the claymore mines at the residence in Maravanpulo on the A32 road.

It is suspected that the explosives and other equipment had been hidden in the area during the war.

The owner of the house who had fled during the raid was later arrested in Kilinochchi.
