Organisers postpone AR Rahman’s concert in Sri Lanka

April 7, 2016   02:29 pm

Two time Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman has been forced to postpone his Sri Lanka concert, which was earlier scheduled to take place on 23rd of April.

While some reports had claimed that the reason behind cancelling the show for now is the protest by some anti-Sri Lanka groups. However, the concert organisers have denied such claims and have cited the forthcoming Tamil Nadu elections as the reason behind the postponement.

“We are deeply saddened to inform you that we are forced to postpone the A R Rahman - Live in Concert event, which was scheduled for the 23rd of April 2016 to a later date due to the Indian Elections that are scheduled,” the official page of the “A R Rahman-Live in Concert” event had posted.

“We had planned a line up of more than 14 impressive artistes to perform in the A R Rahman Live in Concert Tour to make the night a phenomenal musical experience for you, and WE WILL!” read the post.

The organisers have also confirmed that they will reschedule the much anticipated event as early as possible. “Please do not worry about the event, we will definitely organize this event as soon as we obtain the confirmation of our performing artistes!”

Considering the relationship between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, many have even claimed that the reason behind postponing the concert might have to do something with the security issues as well.

Though Sri Lanka shares a fragile relationship with Tamil Nadu and India, Tamil music and movies are quite popular in the island nation.

Without a doubt, many music lovers in Sri Lanka would be saddened by the latest news pertaining to the concert. They would indeed be hoping that the actual reason for cancelling the show for now, is the elections that is to be held in Tamil Nadu, as claimed by the organisers.
