Man arrested at BIA for online threats against President

An individual, who had allegedly issued death threats against President Maithripala Sirisena on social media, has been arrested upon his arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, the police said.


The suspect was arrested following an investigation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), it was reported.


The police added that the person had to arrive here as the the Malaysian authorities deported him owing to visa violations.


The individual who is a resident of Yakkala will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate today.
