Monks to stage “satyagraha” over former President’s security issue

A group of monks would stage an indefinite “satyagraha” in protest over the decision to replace the military security of the former President with police personnel.


Southern Provincial Councilor Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thera said the satyagraha will be staged at the Dharmapala Park in Galle from May 15.


The observation was made while speaking at a press conference held in Kachchiwatta, Galle.


Some 50 army personnel assigned for the security detail of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa were withdrawn earlier. They were replaced by trained police personnel form the VIP security unit.
