Bribery Commission files action against Johnston

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today filed action against former Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando for causing a loss of Rs. 40.1 million to the government.
According to the commission, the losses were incurred due to the former minister using public servants for political and personal reasons.
It is suspected that Johnston Fernando had employed 45 workers of the co-operative wholesale establishment (Sathosa) for his personal and political activities during 2010 and 2014.
In November last year, the Bribery Commission filed 5 cases against former Minister Johnston Fernando for failure to declare assets between 2010 and 2014.
The cases were filed with the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
