Replace the Minister of Health - GMOA

May 29, 2016   03:24 pm

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) on Sunday (29) urged the authorities to replace the Minister of Health with a more amenable politician.

The GMOA also suggested that if not the President should take over the Ministry.

GMOA Secretary, Dr. Nalinda Herath made the observation while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo.

Dr. Herath accused the Health Minister and even his son of misusing their powers by using resources of the Ministry in a bid to build their reputation.

“An agent of a multinational company has become a close associate of the Minister. This is very suspicious,” he added.

The GMOA has also decided to stage a token strike on Tuesday (31) over alleged irregularities when preparing the list for post-internship appointments by relevant authorities.  Herath stated that the strike will be staged in all government hospital in the country except for those in areas affected by the recent floods and landslides.
