Minister did not interfere when preparing the list - Mahipala

When preparing the list for post-internship appointments, the Minister did not interfere at all, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala stressed.

The observation was made while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (30).

“Since there are some 39 closed hospitals across the country, he requested us to make arrangements to sort that matter when preparing the list,” Mahipala added.

He also alleged the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) in the first place of agreeing to go ahead with the prepared list, but later rejecting it.

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne earlier insisted that the GMOA as a union has no rightful authority to interfere into the appointments made to the Ministry.

However, the GMOA announced that it will stage a token strike tomorrow (31) over alleged irregularities when preparing the list.
